Tribe — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 August 2026
Tribe ("we", "us", "the app") is a community platform for travelers to share on‑the‑ground information about places, prices, and local signals. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights over your data. We've written it to be read, not to bury you.
1. Who we are
Tribe is operated by the Tribe team. For any privacy question or request, contact us at tribeappil@gmail.com.
2. What we collect
We collect only what the app needs to work.
Account information (required)
When you sign in with Google, we receive and store:
- Your name, email address, and profile photo from your Google account.
When you sign in with Apple (iOS), we receive and store:
- Your name and email address, only if you choose to share them. Apple lets you hide your real address ("Hide My Email"), in which case we only ever see a private relay address — that is fine, the app works normally.
We use this to create and identify your account. We do not receive your Google or Apple password.
Content you create
- Insights, tips, reviews, tags, price reports, and signals you post.
- Photos you choose to upload (via your device's photo library or camera).
- Comments and vouches you send to other users.
- Your status line, bookmarks, and in‑app token/XP activity.
This content is the point of the app — it's shared with the Tribe community as you intend.
Location
- With your permission, we use your device's location to show nearby places and signals and to power proximity features (e.g. check‑in prompts, nearby‑signal alerts).
- You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in your device settings; the app remains usable, with reduced location features.
Notifications
- If you enable notifications, we store a push notification token to send you relevant alerts (join requests, replies, nearby signals). You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
Diagnostics
- We use Sentry to capture crash reports and errors so we can fix them. Crash reports are tagged only with your internal user ID — not your name, email, or other personal details. We have configured Sentry not to send personal information automatically.
Third‑party place data
- The app displays place information (names, hours, photos, ratings) sourced from Google Places. Your use of maps and place search is subject to Google's own terms and privacy policy.
3. What we do NOT do
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not share your data with advertisers.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not collect data you didn't provide or that the app doesn't need.
4. How your information is used
| Purpose | Data used |
|---|---|
| Create and secure your account | Name, email, profile photo |
| Show your contributions and profile | Content you create, name, photo |
| Show nearby places and signals | Location |
| Send you relevant alerts | Push token |
| Fix crashes and bugs | Diagnostic/crash data (no PII) |
5. Where your data is stored
Your data is stored on our backend infrastructure provided by Convex (a hosted database and serverless platform). Uploaded photos are stored in Convex file storage. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
6. Data sharing
- With other users: the content you post (insights, reviews, signals, comments, vouches, profile name/photo) is visible to the Tribe community, as the app is designed for sharing.
- With service providers: Google (sign‑in and place data), Apple (sign‑in on iOS), Convex (hosting), and Sentry (crash reporting), each only to the extent needed to run the app.
- For legal reasons: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of users.
7. Your rights and choices
- Delete your account and data. You can permanently delete your account at any time from Profile → מחיקת חשבון (Delete Account). This removes your account, your insights, reviews, check‑ins, notifications, blocks, vouches, signals (and their comments), your uploaded photos, and scrubs your contributions from community spots. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
- Access / correction. You can view and edit your profile and contributions in the app. For any other request, email tribeappil@gmail.com.
- Permissions. You control location and notification access from your device settings at any time.
8. Children
Tribe is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your personal data is removed as described in Section 7. Some diagnostic data may persist in aggregated, non‑identifying form.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above, and where appropriate, surfaced in the app.
